What is your canon exit point?: Niska leaves canon after losing her power just outside of 'The Synth Who Sleeps'' cabin.

What skills does your character bring to the situation?

Niska is a sentient synth, which means that she's a conscious robot. As a result of this, she is a prime model of efficiency and can be more effective in every-day tasks than a normal human being, which means that were she to apply herself to routine activities, she would be able to do them quicker. Given her appetite for knowledge, she's also skilled in medical and scientific knowledge and is handy in an emergency due to her retention of data.

She's also an extremely protective fighter, which means that she can protect the people of the settlements if they manage to make it into her good graces. While she's not exactly a supportive and empathetic person, she feels extremely strongly about people having rights and being treated correctly, which means that she will see herself as a defender of others who cannot do it for themselves.

Why did you choose this specific character for 6I, and how do you picture them fitting into the game?

Niska is a fascinating character to me and one that is so unlike we've had in the game at all. Now that we're in a place where she can retain her synth biology, I'm extremely fascinated at the idea of Niska surviving in a pre-Synth world. From the simplest task of charging herself to dealing with an entire group of humans who have never known Synths, there are opportunities for amazing CR, problem-solving in order to cope with a lack of Synth blood replacement, parts, or charge ports, and relationships with science-based characters who could find themselves fascinated by her mere existence.

Beyond that, giving Niska the chance to open up and make friends with humans is a chance she needs. At home, she has her Synth family and Astrid, but given the bombing that put her on the lam, Niska now needs a chance to find some kind of peace with herself, lest she drive herself mad with revenge.

How do you imagine your character will survive in 6I, and in what ways will they contribute to the settlement, if any?

Niska will have been interrupted in the midst of a mission that she took on faith alone. When she wakes up something completely different, she'll have a few months of not knowing whether or not this is just another step in the journey or if she's been kidnapped somewhere all-together else. While Niska won't outwardly be the first to help, she'll do what she can more out of an act of superiority, in a "I'm better than you and I'll prove it" way when it comes to helping with technology, teaching, or medical help. As far as survival goes, the biggest threat to her is going to be maintaining a charge, so she will need the help of others to survive. Given that she's used to people not giving things for free, she will anticipate having to do something in return.

As a result, for her own survival, Niska will likely end up contributing, and she will often face the outside threats because she dislikes anyone pushing her around or treating her as less.

How will your character react to...

Being separated, possibly permanently, from loved ones and their previous life, including loss of powers, if applicable?

Niska has already separated herself from Astrid and the other Elster Synths, who are the only people she loves the most. Even being removed from the Hawkins family is something she's able to process. While she's not turning off her pain, she's extremely talented at compartmentalizing and knows that she has to lock that grief away in order to survive. Being in the establishment and away from them will be no different and she'll keep them in mind, but understand that fretting over them is an ineffective use of time when she can't impact the outcomes.

She will still possess all of her synth abilities, but given they don't give her an advantage, they won't do much. She won't be able to share with other synths, she won't be able to put in upgrades, and so she will mainly be a very efficient human.

Their environment being manipulated, possibly in strange or extraordinary ways, and possibly in ways which restrain them?

Niska is very much a character who prefers to hold control internally, but so long as she can put up a defense, whatever gets thrown at her will not impact her. The worst things in Niska's life have been when men have assaulted her and taken away her control. If she were to be put in a position where she was stripped of all her control again, she would react extremely poorly, but until then, she will find a way to take arms and fight up against it, even if it's only to give herself a modicum of a belief that she's in control.

Being physically and/or mentally manipulated, such as having hallucinations or suddenly possessing special abilities they did not have before?

Niska has been undergoing something similar in canon recently, with someone implanting visions into her mind and sending her on a quest, so while it won't be completely new to her, she will be confused as to why the meaning of them has shifted so radically. Even though they made little sense, they still were all of the same message. To have new physical and mental manipulations to contend with, she may have to fully reposition her outlook on what quest she's on.
